Folding inbetween surface in infrastructure on boundary

Multiple barriers – including viaducts, motorways and canals – define the boundaries of Hackney Wick, although following 2012 Olympic developments, there are some new bridges and attempts to improve key pedestrian routes to connect Hackney Wick to its surroundings. This project explores networks and space across a range of scales, and attempts to generate tools for architectural analysis and speculation out of material systems techniques.

Research has focused upon two such strategies: 1.Patterns on the surfaces of laminated steels, which are a cumulation of layers recording each folding during forging, and 2. Origami, where folding papers provides deployable structures and repeated patterns. Its plasticity provides possibilities of placing new facilities in existing infrastructure.
